Traditional personal finance platforms hold your account balances, transactions, and identities in cleartext database columns. Numeris models trust cryptographically: local transactions and ledger updates are sealed directly on your device using 256-bit AES-GCM before transmission, while bank-synced transaction streams processed by server workers are sealed in encrypted envelopes before persistence. The decryption key is derived exclusively on your hardware and never leaves your possession.

How does zero-knowledge encryption work if you sync with banks?
When you link an institution, banking tokens are held in hardware-isolated vault storage. Financial transaction streams fetched by server workers are processed in memory and sealed in encrypted envelopes before cloud persistence. Only your authenticated device with your private key can decrypt balances and ledger lines.
Can Numeris employees or server administrators see my financial balances?
No. All balances, transaction descriptions, merchants, and net worth records are stored exclusively as encrypted ciphertext envelopes. We have no mathematical way to decrypt your figures without your device key.
Is the free local tier really free forever?
Yes. In the Numeris app, local device mode runs 100% on your device storage without hitting bank aggregators or cloud relays, our cost to serve you is $0.00. No signup is needed in the app. The no-account web experience is a read-only demo with fictional data.
What platforms will Numeris support at launch?
Numeris is built iOS-first with native support for iPhone, iPad, and Mac (Catalyst), plus this companion Web application. Your encrypted envelopes sync seamlessly across all active devices.
What happens if I forget my password or lose all my devices?
Because of zero-knowledge architecture, we cannot reset your encryption key. You are provided with an emergency recovery key upon initial setup that allows you to restore your cryptographic vault on a new device.
